Ten Great Autumn Hikes of the U.S.A. East Coast

While Arcadia National Park boasts some of the best hikes on the east coast, one that stands out in particular is the Cadillac Summit Trail. This trail boasts some if the greatest views to see throughout the park. Add the colors of autumn to the mix, and this trail is a sight to behold. To see the best autumn views, you should head there during the beginning of October. To amp the view to a perfect 10/10, hike the trail to see the sunrise. Luckily, you won’t have to get up super early to witness the sunrise, because the trail itself is only half a mile, requiring about 30 minutes to get to the summit and back. However, if you love challenging and/or low traffic hikes, you may want to check out one of Arcadia’s other, equally beautiful, trails that range from easy to strenuous. Experienced hikers should check out the Precipice trail, which features high elevation, rock scrambling and cliff walks.

For the more experienced hikers wanting beautiful view of the fall leaves, a very good choice would be the Mount Lafayette and Franconia Ridge Trail. At a little over 8 miles, this loop trail is a full day hike. Be prepared for steep, rocky paths that are rewarded with breathtaking views, including several waterfalls. Luckily, if you need a rest or more water, the trail features a rest hut half-way through where you can fill your water and buy a small snack. Despite the strenuous nature of this trail, dogs are allowed, so feel free to bring Fido. If you want to see the leave at their peak, you will have to plan your trip for the end of September or beginning of October.
