Best Strategies for a Killer Podcast Interview

If you are wanting to find people to interview for your podcast you may feel at a loss on where to start. How do I find the right people? How do I make sure I steer the conversation in the right direction? How do I make this interesting?
Surprisingly, doing an interview on a podcast doesn’t have to be that daunting of a task.
I have a podcast called, The Nutrition Hangout, and I decided that my voice cannot be the only voice that my audience hears weekly. Yes, I love getting on a soapbox about the downfalls of the keto diet, the truth about how bad sugar is for our bodies, and all of the tips and tricks for a healthful lifestyle. But, it’s nice for my listeners to hear about what is going on in the nutrition industry from other experts.

How do I find people to interview?
This may seem like a weird answer- Instagram. Look at the people you follow and that you like getting content from that is interesting in your field. Maybe that person is a doctor, financial analyst, marketing guru.. etc. Message them and tell them about your podcast, what you like about them, and why you would like for them to come on. I would go after realistic people with 8,000–15,000 followers. You may have someone that you would die to have on. I would message them and just see if they would be interested! You can also find people through LinkedIn. You can comment on something they have posted or even shoot them a message.

I have also brought on friends and clients that I knew would have interesting stories to tell that I can still connect to the foundation of my podcast. Ask people that you know if they would be willing to come on if you aren’t ready to reach out to people through social media yet.

How do I convince people to come on my podcast?
The way that you can convince people to come on is by making it clear that your podcast is their platform for the 30–45 minutes you are interviewing them. They can market whatever they want during that time and they can speak about whatever they want. You will have some questions for them, but it’s their time to shine. People love free marketing and they love speaking about themselves. They will want to share this on their social media because they want their own audience to hear them speak.
