Best free graphic design software

As most graphic designers should know, the industry standard for graphic design these days mainly consists of software from the Adobe Creative Cloud; such as Adobe Illustrator for logo design and vector artwork, Adobe Photoshop for any general raster-based graphic design or photo editing and Adobe XD for UI/UX design.
The newest versions of these softwares can often be quite expensive for new designers, so as the title suggests — I’m here to go through the best cheap and free alternatives.

Krita is a free and open-source software optimised for digital painting. It has a great UI — and the workspace is fully customisable.
Some cool features are:

I’ve never personally tried this software out, however I’ve been told by many of my colleagues that it’s the go-to software for any personal or small commercial projects. It’s best for any comic strips, or digital art and illustrations — however you may want to keep scrolling if you’re looking for software with another use.

Inkscape is a free and yet again open-source software optimised for vector editing and projects such as illustrations, diagrams, line arts, charts, logos, business cards, book covers, icons or any general graphic art.
Some of its strengths:

Inkscape is a great alternative to Illustrator, or Photoshop — although they definitely have some features worth upgrading to if you have the money.

Figma is a software great for UI/UX design. If you really must, due to its basic shape and pen tools, it can still be used for some very basic logo design, if need be, however I don’t reccomend it, I’d much rather use another software such as Inkscape for doing so.
Here are a few things it does great:

One thing I haven’t found easy to do is animation, it seems like a lengthy process, which I found much easier to do in Adobe XD, however I actually opted for Figma rather than XD due to its wide range of plugins and great user interface.

Sure, Affinity designer isn’t free, but it’s an award-winning software by many organisations and companies, such as Apple. Again, it’s not a free software, however it starts at about $60 for desktop downloads at a one time payment. Not bad, for a life-time subscription.
Some things I like about it:

Affinity designer is a great all-in-one software for graphic designers, great for vector art and raster art, if you have a small budget I’d reccomend Affinity straight away, although it’s not free, it’s much better than the likes of most Adobe applications.

Sure, there are many other applications such as GIMP — and some others, but in this article, I’ve covered my personal favourites, which are most likely some of the most well-known for what they do in my graphics community, other than Adobe applications, of course.
